28/11/09 - Floating

In the morning a small group of us went on a tour to the nearby salt and sweet lakes. In the salt lake the salt content was seven times higher than in the ocean. No matter what we did (even tin soldier) we couldn't sink. This is great, especially for relaxing as Marco is clearly showing.

The sweet lakes are essentially huge holes in the middle of the desert. The water is 10m deep so Marco and I were diving in. This got rid of all the salt that had crusted on my shorts from the salt lake thankfully. They were like cardboard.

The last lake we visited was only 30cm deep but with a ludicrous salt content. Below is a picture of Luke in another of his unintentionally amusing stances.

Later we went on a tour of the Moon Valley, so named because the terrain looks like the Moon. Here for the first time I'm starting to realize just how little justice my camera is doing to the places I'm visiting. The views here were magnificent (I'm soon going need a thesaurus to find new adjectives).

We waited for about an hour atop a mountain to view the sunset before heading back to the hotel.
