Today I joined up with a Stray tour bus that will take me around both the north and south islands. Thankfully New Zealand is about the same size as Great Britain so journey times per day wont be as long as I've gotten used to.
We were first taken up a hill in the center of Auckland where you have a pretty epic view of the city. Auckland, as it turns out, is very flat with most of the buildings built with few floors. As a result it extends over a massive area.

Afterward we headed to our hostel/ holiday resort and went for a hike along the coast. Yet more continuous beauty was seen.

I know New Zealand is known for this, and it lives up to its reputation so far (the south island is meant to be even nicer), but I've found that every country I've been in so far has something to offer. As it turns out the world is a beautiful place if you can just get out in it.
I really need to go on a tour of Scotland when I get back...

In the evening we had a BBQ which, considering I was helping a lot with the cooking, turned out very well.

Finally we went to a nearby beach which basically had a hot spring under it. You go along with shovels and dig your own pools. The only problem with this is that the water temperature can vary wildly over just a couple of feet. In the picture below I'm sitting right next to the source of the hot water for our pool. That was really hot.
