7/12/09 - The Lost Day

The 6th didn't happen for me. I feel robbed.

Upon arrival at the airport I made attempts to communicate with the hostel I had bookd my stay in Auckland with to see if I could stay a day earlier. Failing to do so I went for the "turn up and hope for the best approach". As expected this worked out fine. Go me.

Auckland is by far the biggest population center in New Zealand and is considered by many to be the worst part of the country. If this is indeed the case then New Zealand is the perfect country. The city is beautiful. Spacious and modern with copious amounts of parkland. I have a feeling my stay here is going to be legendary.

I spent the day wandering around the city center, at one point sitting in a park wondering where the hell the sound of bagpipes was coming from. Note that I am essentially immune to jet lag. I have experienced no trouble adapting to any time zone since I left.

While here I plan on preparing my own meals (contain your laughter, I'll learn) so I went for a look at the nearest supermarket and found that the price of food is pretty cheap.

I also found this.

I can't see this particular brand taking off in Scotland. On a side note there must be at least a couple of New Zealanders who think I'm insane already seeing as I was taking pictures in a supermarket.

In the afternoon I went to the Auckland Museum. Entry was by donation, if by donation I mean an obligatory payment of $10, which I do. It is a large and interesting museum with my favourite section being the volcanoes exhibit. Sometimes you just have to love the British.

In the evening I had dinner. Salad and roast chicken. This will probably be tomorrows lunch and possibly even dinner as I clearly have no concept of portion size yet.
