7/11/09 - 12 Sided Stone
First off, this is apparenty a big deal.
Anyway...
Arriving in Cusco was somewhat of a disappointment considering it is this continent's oldest continuously inhabited city, was the centre of the Inca empire and its name means navel of the world. It has been destroyed several times by earthquakes and built on by the Spanish who also stripped it of anything worthwhile. There are very few Inca buildings left so it just comes across as yet another Spanish looking city. The Plaza de Armas (main square) is nice of course.
After the usual tour we all split up to wander around. Rob and I found the highest Irish owned pub in the world and went in. We left quickly however as the price of a can of Guiness was S/18 (We hadn't paid more than S/12 for any type of drink up until that point). We did go back later on in our stay though as the food was good and well priced.
