After a sedate morning I was picked up outside the hotel. Everyone else knew my name as I was the only one who hadn't set out from Alice Springs at 6am. Hah.
Eating a quick lunch we set off to Uluru. Initially I was all set to not climb it as requested by the natives. But then I saw it. It is an epic rock which begs to be climbed. I'd have regretted not doing so.
Only five of us chose to climb it, the others splitting up to do various other optional activities. The group I was with consited of Mai, Peggy, MJ and Andrew.
I believe the climb was most interesting for Mai and Peggy who not only haven't done anything like this before but were doing it wearing Converse. Clearly the ideal foorwear for the job.
Some time later were were at the top striking dramatic poses and taking pictures of the not much all around us as far as the eye could see.
In the evening we had a dinner consisting of kangeroo, vegetables and pasta before falling asleep around the fire in our swags. Falling asleep beneath the stars was a great experience.
P.S. Swags are deceptively warm and comfortable. Need to get one back home...
P.P.S. Perhaps not. When are you going to have a clear enough sky in Scotland?
P.P.P.S. ...and the dew in the morning. Terrible idea as it turns out.
